I'm just curious, I have a parts car that became one due to an accident. Its a 63 R2 Avanti. The engine , Im told is OK but I haven't tried to crank it. Assuming it's a good running engine that doesn't need rebuilding, What should I ask for it? And if it needs building, whats it worth? I'm going to have to sell some thing to support this Stude habit of mine. Oh, the supercharger has been removed or stolen but all the brackets are there.
Thanks
Charley

For sure the R2 is one of the rarer Stude V8's. I do not know the value but you might want to contact Doug Tjapkes since from the sound of things at the Muscle Car drags he will need one to get his Hawk back to normal!

This from Bob Palma's posting:

"Yes, Doug Tjapkes (easy to pronounce; the "T" is silent and everything else sounds like you'd expect: ***-kess) blew his R2 Hawk on his seventh run. (I thought 7 was a lucky number?) He had been tickling the 14s, too; getting as low as 15.026 early Saturday morning.

They pulled his Hawk onto the trailer at the far end of the track and left without coming back to the pits for a post-mortem, so we don't know for sure what happened. It did blow big-time: camshaft, rod, bearing, and piston parts out through the oil pan and all over the track. Ouch!"

It is hard to make a value estimate base on what you have given. If the engine were to be sold as a unit, I would estimate between $1500 and $2500 - if it were to be parted out it would be worth more. A lot depends on the total milage and the outward look of the engine. A really interested party is also going to consider delivery charges as part of the cost, and it is difficult to sell anything sight unseen - even pictures are a poor substitute for an in-person look.

Yea, I know what you mean. I probably should keep it just in case but my engine has just a little over 35000 on it. I don't think I'll ever need this one.
The front end of this car is pushed into the fan so I'll need to cut all of that off and do a bypass on the trans. cooling lines just to turn it over. The valve covers are a little rusted as well as is the valley pan. The ign. shielding is also bent some too. I haven't see any damage to the motor. The car has sat outside(covered) for around 7 or so years so I'll need to go through the steps before I turn it over. I'll be looking for advice when I get to that. This car has a really nice set of black seats that aren't going to last very long if I don't get them out and put them up somewhere. I may try to sell them on ebay or something. But, oh yea, if I could get 2 thousand out of the engine, that would fund my habit for some time!
