I am new at this so can one of the experts out there tell me, do I install the water pump manifold gaskets on the manifold first when reinstaling, or on the block. Should I use some gasket sealer to hold them in place while instaling the manifold?[:I][?]
Kinda late in life to be starting wrenching on old cars.;)

I use Hi-Tack gasket sealer to stick them on the block.

My dad taught me to put the sealer on the part that comes off. If I was replacing the water pump and the gasket was sealed to the water manifold? Then I would have to scrape the gasket off the manifold while on the car. If myself or someone else down the road had to change the pump again and gasket was sealed on the pump the gasket would stay on the pump and could be removed easier on the bench.

Dad was right, but since I seal both sides anyway the next guy will have to scrape regardless. Besides, how many times to have have a bad water manifold.:)
