'51 Trunk Hinge

  • '51 Trunk Hinge

    Any tips for removing the trunk hinge springs on a '51 coupe? it looks as if I could easily hurt myself trying to remove those without some inside information about how it's done! will Lark hinges work on this year?

    Sure thing!
    Get yourself a ahndful of nickels...
    Open the hinges, stretching the springs.
    Slide nickels in between each coil.
    (Tape then if you have to).
    Close the lid (or the hinge)
    The springs should fall off.
    Then you can rebuild the hinge pins, etc.
    Reverse the process to install.

      thanks for the great tip, I could see whatever prying tool I used
      careening out of control and causing personal trauma!
