What would be a reasonable dwell angle for a 259 , 1955 President?
This car has a 1960 Lark distributor with a window. I have a dwell instrument.[:I]

I believe the default spec is 28 to 32 degrees. On new points, I always adjust toward the low end of the range as it will increase a bit with wear. At least with the "window" distributor, it's a piece of cake to adjust. While you're going through the trouble, check the distributor cam for lube and hit the external oiler with a couple of drops of oil.

Take care,

Mark

That is what thought,28-32. When I checked it out I had a dwell of 14, Idle was rough but she ran well/ I turned the dwell to 30 and the idle smoothed out & the car still ran well. There is not a setting for dwell that I found for the V8 1955 President. I used the Lark settings , seeing the dist. is from a 1960 Lark.[^]

All V-8 single point distributors should have basically similar specs, don't lose any sleep over it.

Curt, do a search for "dwell" right here on the forums and the posts should explain all about it.
