I have a 1961 studebaker Champ pick-up, it has a 289 v8 engine. I would like to know who made the engine, and what parts are interchangable with it. Like maybe a fuel pump from a ford 289 v8 or what?

The Studebaker 289 was built by Studebaker Corp. It is 110% different from a Ford 289. Not one little thing is the same between them, at least as far as I know.
Welcome to the forum!

There's nothing that'll interchange from a Furd. (and that's a good thing!)
IF you need a fuel pump, you could buy one from one of our fine Studebaker vendors OR you can ask NAPA for an M2211 Carter. I'm not real happy with the quality of that Carter but that's not Studebaker's fault - it's the crappy pump that's bein' built overseas someplace, like every other American car part nowdays.[8]
As Matthew's said, the ONLY thing this engine shares with F*rd is that it just HAPPENS to be the same in cubic inches. It was first built about 8 years before F*rd's 289 was! Oh - and it's a MUCH better engine than the F*rd.
Tell us more about your Champ. Is it driveable or are you tryin' to get it to that point?

Thre are a lot of interchanges available, just not with f*rd stuff. Might start at N8's site here:
and maybe take a tour of the Studebaker web ring for others. They are simple American cars that use many of the same parts as other American cars of the era. I think each of us has our own list of interchanges we've tried. If you need something specific, ask here or try a Studebaker vendor.

Thanks Karl, it is still "under development" however. Any input is greatly appreciated whenever someone has a chance to confirm any of tose part numbers.
Bob Johnstone has another interchange on his site; he's got more numbers in it but I prefer the way mine is organized. (I won't just copy numbers over unless I can confirm them with a catalog or personal experience.)

Sure Bones, look under the dash on the left of Wheel there should be a chrome "T" handle that is stamped OD. Also the tail of the trans has a Governor on one side & Solinoid on the other with wires on them. There is a third shift lever on the left side for the OD cable. If none of the above it's just a Standard Trans not Overdrive. [^]
The "6E" indicates 1961, the "7" a 1/2 ton V-8, the 112 a 112 inch wheelbase short bed pickup.
The advertised horsepower is actually 180,195,210 or 225 depending on the engine ordered 259 2V, 259 4V, 289 2V, 289 4V. [^]The SAE rated HP is all the same: 141. [:0]
You only need to clean a area 1/2 inch by 2 inch on the DRIVER'S side front corner flat machined pad next to oil filler pipe, it can't be THAT hard to do, I could have done it in less time than typing this!

Hey Tom, you ever get around to tearing that engine down? I still haven't found the "right" pulley for the A/C yet nor have I managed to find someone to mill down a spacer to make the one I have (presumably earlier model) work.

Sorry Nate ... been chasin the powersteering crap for the Avanti, and
the only thing I have done to that 64 R1 is see that it turns. Oh! I
did swipe the coil and ballist resistor off it when my Avanti died.

According to that (3E), it is a 259. At least it WAS when new. Pull a spark plug and check it to see if it has dished pistons 289, or flat top 259.
