I have a 63 Champ and have considered a Saginaw Power Steering Unit. Haven't physically done it yet, but am presently in the measuring and calculation stage. It appears as though a late model Chevy or G.M.C. large size van may work. You would have to fabricate a mounting bracket. But would for all intents and purposes use the same steering geometry used now... basically all you would do is change out the present Ross box for the Saginaw.
Also you can adapt the power steering set up from a G.T. Hawk, but I find that set up too bulky and the feel of the steering too "sensitive".
Anybody else have any ideas?

Trouble is, you're talking apples and oranges here. The 63-64 Champs had radically different steering geometry from 62 & earlier Champs.
Studedude has a GM power steering box mounted in his truck, Sheba. While he didn't do the installation, pictures reveal how it was done. It uses a 70s style GM power steering box. The pitman arm or the drag link end (one or the other) was modified to work with one another. Of course, there's hoses to work out and adaption to whatever steering column your gonna use, whether you use the original column or a brand X steering column.[}]

I have a '62 Champ as well. I took the power steering box off of an early 70s Ford F150 and I plan to try to adapt it to my Champ. It is MUCH taller than the Stude box, and on the Ford it mounted straight up and down on the frame rail instead of at an angle like the Stude box. But I figure if I'm creative in fabricating a mounting plate I can make it work. Of course, I'll also have re-create the drag link. But I think it might work.
I'm also thinking of a front sway bar like Jeep uses on the front axle of the Wrangler. I figure anyting I can do to stabilize the front end is a good thing. I've already adapted a Ford Bronco rear sway bar to the rear axle.

Ray Fichturn is looking into having Hellwig manufacturer Front sway bar kits for CHamps(would probably fit earlier pickups too) If interested send him an email with Swaybar in the subject line at studeman@triad.rr.com
He adapted the front swaybar off a Jeep Cherokee to the REAR of his Champ, if you have some pictures post em here or over on Stude Truck Talk(http://www.network54.com/Forum/goto?forumid=23885). Maybe your installation would be easier/neater????

Awww Geeezzzz - Man, I'm in trouble now! I'll be watchin' my back for a black police cruiser comin' after me! yeah, I knew/know it's Goliath! (the name of Studedude's truck) I just had a brain fart, I guess. Maybe that's why I've never been serious about giving my Studes names. I sorta call my Transtar, Pete. But not with regularity. I used to refer to our ragtop as Lisey (Lee-see), which was the wife's nickname before I met her. I used to tease her that I liked Lisey so much because I could put her top down and go for a ride[:0][:X][:I][] Uh-oh! That just might get me censored here. Bob? You watchin'? It's all a matter of how you read it Lisey IS a convertible.[}]
