I have been talking with a fellow who has a 289(?) short block for sale. The number is LS4642 which identifies it as a '58 Packard.[?] According to the technical information page on this site.

Question? Is this compatible with my Studebaker stuff? As I understand how things stood, there wasn't any diferrence at that point.;)
Question 2. I have a 289 champ motor that is dead. Can I just bolt the parts on the Packard motor?[8)]

Thanks in advance...

Ron,
That engine number is listed for a 1957 Packard "Clipper" 289. As I recall the "S" after the "L" means it is a "Supercharged" engine.

and yes, it is a "Studebaker" engine and should work just fine for your truck.
