Anyone out there have any idea how many 5 spd/OD Champs were produced? I never saw one when they were current, but I have the "hots" for one now.

Hard to say Steve, couple years back there were two or three in Oregon for sale in TW. I missed out on one locally about 21 years ago at a farm auction locally. It was a '64 8E12 w/5 spd OD, airconditiong, power brakes and sliding rear window. Cant remember if it was a T4 or T6.
I believe it came from the local dealer, Wolfe Motors, Corydon, IN

I owned and drove an 8E12 5spd for a number of years. Sorry I ever sold it! That was one versatile truck!;)

Well, I'm high bidder on one in ebay now. I hope it doesn't go by way of the snipers. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I wonder if it's one of the ones that was in TW a couple of years ago. It's in Oregon

Wow I wish my champ was a 5 speed, she wouldn't be such a "screamer" on the highway.

Here is a pic of my counsin's 64 8E7 with the NP 5th over

Restored but still with the original drive train.

I think I had heard somewhere that seven half-tons were ordered in the 1964s with the NP 5th over transmission. No way to confirm that number unless you wanted to look through all the production orders.

As of the fact that I'm driving a three-speed manual in my 1949 Champion, I would love to know how "relaxed" a five speed sounds while cruising!

BigB, does your Champion have Overdrive? That makes a BIG difference in road speed RPMs. If your Champion has/had O/D it's a 30% advantage that really makes a difference over a non-O/D 3rd gear.
The 5spd - while they DO have O/D, it's only a 15% advantage over top gear so it's actualy less advantageous over a 3-spd O/D tranny. Of course, the gears in the rear axle are a big part of the overall performance.;)

Steve I should have my 2R6 with 289 & 5 OD on the road in a couple weeks. I just finisned building a wire harness for it and now will start on an exhoust system. The 5 OD was in a 63 1/2 ton Champ originaly.
The 5 OD I put in the 8E13 I thought it was from a C-Cab but it had Champ motor mounts on the bell housing. I got lucky and found 2 5 ODs in the last 2 or 3 years. The only trouble with the 5 OD is the gig jump from 3rd to 4th. But it is only a problem when houling a heavy load or pulling a loaded trailer.
