  • Avanti Roof Repair Needed

This is from my email, it's a real shame, hope somebody can help.....

Cal Roe wrote, "I have a 1963 Studebaker Avanti R2 and live in the mountains of Southern California at 7000 feet. I have kept the car in a portable tent enclosure for 3 years without any problems. However, the recent MAJOR storms that came through in January resulted in the tent collapsing. When I got the car dug out, I found that the support
tubes had put a crack in the fiberglass roof, and one of the exterior
mirrors was also broke. I recently moved the car off the hill to a
car port I have access to.

My question - Is there anyone in Southern California that knows how to repair fiberglass?"

Contact Cal at: q43028croe@charter.net He didn't say if he was a SDC member, but I suggested the local chapter to him anyway.

It may sound odd, but have you tired a local boat shop? They should repair fiberglass

I have found that places that specialize in Corvettes either repair fiberglass or know the best place to go. There are many Corvette specialists in California. Only use one that shows an interest in working on an Avanti. The first step for you should be to make contact with other SDC members in your area. I assume that you are a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club (this site). Studebaker International, and others, sell reproductions of your mirror.
