I have a 57 Champion Scotsman and when the engine heats up - it is difficult to take off from 1st gear without mass vibration as I disengage the clutch. What could be the cause of this?

Poor alignment of the tranny is one possibility. If this car's had an engine change in the past and the bellhousing wasn't "dialed in" to the "new" (to the existing) bellhousing, this can cause the transmission to be misaligned with the flywheel. Also a worn pilot bushing in the end of the crankshaft.[xx(]
