Last week I bought my first Studebaker, a red 4-door sedan. The title says that it is a 1959 Lark. However, after doing some research I'm not sure what I do have. The car's serial #, on the driver's door post, is 60V 2908. The engine's serial # is V456922. There is a metal plate, inside the engine compartment on the firewall, that has 60V W4 over the number 607. On the rear of the car, below the trunk lid and above the bumper, is Lark VIII. Can anyone help me verify the identity of my car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the numbers, it is a 1960 V-8 DeLuxe sedan. The engine number you gave falls in the range for South Bend 1960 production, so there's a chance that the engine is original to the car.

Nate is right for sure, the car is a '60 Lark with a 259 cu. in. V8. According to the book the 60V serial numbers started at 1001, engine serial numbers started with 454701. Since engine serial numbers didn't "reset" to some low number at the beginning of every new model year, (they were sequential through the years), if that's the original engine, I'd have to say that it was a very early '60 Lark, but a '60 for sure.

The title shows that this car was first sold on November 9 of 1959. The title also shows the vehicle year as 1959. If this car is actually a 1960 Lark do I have a problem with the title showing it as a 1959?Comment

Asa, I'd just say that if the title matched the numbers on the car just drive the hell out of it and enjoy!
