  • # 1 position on the cap

I need some info on ignition timing for the 1956 6cyl flathead engine.
The rotor rotation is counter clockwise and it appears that the #1 cylinder location is at 11:00 o'clock on the distributor cap. Is that correct? Thanks, Tom

    Hey Tom!

I have to ask, have you made sure that you have the engine exactly at top dead center? The end of the shaft that goes into the oil pump is a flat blade that fits a slotted receptacle in the oil pump. If you have not turned the engine over when you had the distributor out it should drop in exactly where you took it out or be 180 degrees out. Also, we need to know where you're placing the vacuum advance when you're checking for the #1 position on the cap, it "swings" but has to be in the right position too.
