  • 51 Champion Radiator

I got to bond with the 51 yesterday since hording parts at SB last week. I installed the fuel pump I picked up and attached a temporary fuel supply, filled the radiator and fired it up. The radiator was attacked by Pinhole Worms in the core while it was asleep for years.
I'm still kicking around the idea of stickin a 259 or 289 in it, but not 100% sure since the little 6 seemed to run better each miniute it was runnig yesterday. Going to pull the radiator and have the local radiator shop take a look at it for possible recore. Would it be advised to beef up the core for a larger cooling and the possibility of V8 power in the future. Are there any members that recore??[?] What have some of the other done with theirs???[?] Or I would be intrested in a good used one.
    Thanks
    G

Have the radiator shop install one more core, if it was one, go to two, or three if two. It will cost little more than just duplicating what you have.

The V-8's do have larger inlet and outlet tubes, AND different tube locations. It is best to know for sure what the final configuration will be and build it now, maybe rig it with small hoses into larger ones or something if it will be temporarily a "6" and later a V-8. [^]

Was telling my NAPA guy about the Pinhole Worms attacking the radiator. Another guy in the store just picked up his recored radiator for a 66 GTO and had $350.00 in it for a 4 core.
OUCH!!!! Said the cost of copper was the factor.

There is a difference on Radiators. From 6 to 8 motor size. I can send you pictures of the diff. Email me and I will send you pictures of V8 radiator . On my 6 cylinder radiator, it has 3 cords. Also, I stock 1950 Commander radiator for sale. The 6 maybe sold. Still waiting for buyer.
