  • 63 Hawk GT Trunk Light photo please.

My 63 Hawk restoration has progressed to the trunk. If any one has an original
trunk light, a photo would be much appreciated. I can easily fab one using a
flaps bulb holder but would like to have it look close to original.
As life goes, after making one, I"ll find a NOS at the Nationals meet<G>.
    Thanks

I might have a pic of one, but I believe the original had a mercury switch that turned it on when the lid was raised. You can make a switch if you have an old thermostat available.

Do you have the AC-? or a part #

Your FLAPS should have one...also a junkyard.
The local paper just did a story on the enviromentalists worring about the mercury in each car switch....

BTW: My Avanti had one, but it kept breaking and leaving the light on so the last owner replaced it with a thumb wheel switch. C
heap, easy and it won't drain your battery.

The part number is AC-3243, per the '63 Hawk Accessories brochure. Other than indicating that it is located just to the left of the trunk latch, it doesn't indicate how it looks or mounts. I'll be following this as I hope to have my GT ready for regional meet in Selma, CA this fall and a light would be great.

Thanks to all. I didn't know about the Mercury Switch-pretty clever. I will use a microswitch.
They are pretty reliable with a roller arm. Work like your refrigerator light.
I hope kmul221 can get into his garage before Spring and put a photo of his original light
on the forum. Anyone have a 63 accessories brochure with the sketch he alludes to ?
Maybe it could be scanned for forum posting.

BTW, this is from the CANADIAN accessories catalog that came in the glove compartment of my Hawk. I wonder how many '63 Hawk CANADIAN accessory catalogs are out there?

Trunk lights have a habit of staying on which annoys the battery big-time (at least, in many of my cars over the years). I now replace the original globe with a High Intensity LED. Very, very bright and very very low power consumption. And the LED's are small as well.
