I have a 1953 Commander Starliner. I need new tires and has decided to continue with bias ply whities. The current set is 6.40 x 15. The shop manual says the Commander used 7.10 x 15 (and the Champions 6.40 x 15). My favorite tire shop only has 6.40 x 15 in stock. I can of course wait for them to get 7.10-tires, but is there a big difference between the the two sizes in apperance, handling, security and so on?

Stick with 7.10x15. It is wider (4.4 inches vs 4.2), taller (27.75 vs 26,88) and has a larger load capacity than a 6.40. The smaller 6.40 would make your speedometer say you are going faster than you really are and, a 6.40 would look undersized.

:) Yep; what Paul said: Stick with 7.10s.

You say they have sizes like that in stock? Remarkable. Things are sure different in Sweden. It would be difficult to imagine any "regular tire shop" in The U.S. having either of those sizes in stock...or even being able to order them! [8D]BP
