  • FYI Windshield Seal blues : (

Had "like new" seal from parts car but not made for stainless trim. Bought one from SI. It was too long, sent back and they agreed and said others they had were same way. Found one at Canadian Studebaker. Ordered-cost $100 instead of $80 like SI.Postage about $40.Installer put 2-piece windshield in today, quick and easy. Worked and worked and worked on stainless inserts-could not get them to stay in the groove-I finally told him to just forget it. So again, money wasted and lots of time wasted searching for the right seal and still no stainless. I did a search on this and several forum members related the same experience. Something said about some fellow in Indy that can do it-may look him up later in the summer.

I know Craig Piper at Westmoreland Restorations in Blairsville, PA allows about six hours just to install the stainless trim.
If you think it is not easy, you are absolutely correct.

If it is any consolation, the 9G-?1 models did not have the stainless. ? is the differrent body types. But you probably have the fancy model. :-)

Just installed front and back window on a 55K regal (with the stainless). Called in a pro from "Speedy Auto Glass" and used the S.I. rubbers. He liked the new rubbers but the stainless was hard work. I left when then swearing started . He managed it and it looks great, but like all have said, it took a long time (6 hours).

Last summer I helped a well-experience Stude guy install the stainless window trim on a '50 Champion 4 door. I think it took us about 3 days to get it right. But, it's in there now.

Well there is a BIG difference between a C or K rear glass and a '50 Champion! These are very hard to install because the moulding goes in LAST!

The C & K should be a lot easier and fast putting the stainless moulding into the rubber BEFORE installation! [:0] After is impossible without major damage to rubber seal.

This topic has been discussed before.
I took a N.O.S. windshield seal and compared the cross cut with the reproduction rubber by slicing it.
the reproduction rubber is close but not right.
It is almost impossible to install the moulding afterwards.
The only way to do it is to cut the bend over area (lip) of the stainless moulding off.
I used a die grinder to do this and glued the moulding in. You can push the moulding straight in without the lip.
