The "Power Cylinder" (p/n 1551362) is leaking where the rod goes into the cylinder. SI sells a rebuild kit called the "Control valve seal kit" (p/n 1553403). The problem is that the PO welded the rod to the end assembly where the grease fitting is.
I think this renders the rebuild kit useless. Please help.

You have a couple of options not counting leaving it like it is.

    1- Find a replacement unit

2- Anything welded can be un-welded. Just remove the cylinder and gingerly use a cutting wheel to slowly remove the weld.

You will then find out why it was welded in the first place and may need to reweld it to reassemble. Just go slow and protect the ram by wrapping it with aluminum foil and tape.

    Good luck

I agree with Bob, Welded for Years at Caterpillar. Protect the cylinder rod and carefully use a grinder to remove the weld. It is possible that the weld may have contributed to causing the leak. We produced cylinders at the plant and its never a good idea to weld on a assembled cylinder after seals and packing have been installed. Good Luck !

First off your picture is not the control valve it is the Ram,you can get kits for both from most of the venders, you can just grind the weld off to get it apart then tack it when done.
