  • From the Archives #63 (Used car lot Iowa dealer)

This is the used car lot of the dealer in Charles City, Iowa (North Iowa Motor Co). My 1940 President Club Sedan was sold new at this dealership at about the same time this photo was taken. Note especially the well optioned 1939 Coupe Express at left (white wall tires, bumper guards and side mount cover) as well as the '37 Coupe.

What a prominent site to show off some of the used cars. I guess the New Car Showroom on the other side was well set up also?

The amount of used cars is considerable for a Studebaker dealership in Iowa.Great picture--Coupe express would be a great purchase. Gary Olson

Thanks Richard. That '39 Coupe Express is a beauty. I also like the '39 Commander next to the '37. At least I think it's a '39. Looks like the car my dad had at that time. I was only a little kid then.

Thanks, you are correct. The dealer who sold my '40 President was K & H Motor Co. of Charles City, Iowa. At that time dealers could not deal direct with the factory but received their new cars and parts through a distributor. Through April 1938 the Charles City dealer received his new cars from the North Iowa Motor Co. in Mason City. After that date they were funneled thru the dealer in Des Moines Union Motor Sales. In any event I appreciate your correction. That lot in the photo would be in Mason City.

I seem to recall that Mason City is, or at least holds itself out as, the setting for the Music Man!

Also lots of Frank Lloyd Wright-ish Prairie Style homes.

                            Hi

Interesting image. Love the look of America in that era.
