Attended the first 2010 East Coast Timing Association speed trials at Maxton today. There were three Studebakers running - all three were '53/'54 C bodies. There were also two other Studebakers there - a '63 F-body driven by Jamie McLeod, and a Champ pickup driven by Joe Roberts (who was working the shutdown area). Unfortunately I forgot to get pics of Jamie's and Joe's Studes. But I did get a bunch of other pics of neat cars, including the three Studes.

The pics can be seen here: http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff46/r1skytop/ECTA%20Maxton%20April%202010%20Meet/

Here are some teaser pics of the three Studebakers that ran:

The car above belongs to the Nelson family, and I know one run was in the 168 mph range.

The black primered car runs a 56 354 Hemi with 54 heads. It ran in the 156-162 MPH range all day. The yellow car has a LS-? Chevy small block and ran well. He drives this car from Canada, pulling a small trailer with his racing gear in it. Pretty cool!
The Nelson car ran a fastest time of 168mph. Realy a cool car. It proves that you don't have to have a pretty car to go fast!
We did have the opportunity to line all of the Studebakers up on the track at the end of the day, including the non racing studes, for pictures.
Joe Roberts will have to post the pictures unless I can figure out how to download pictures from my wife's camera. I'm lucky she let me borrow it.;)

It was a fun day, got sunburned, listened to some stories and watched fast cars.

The fastest car of the day was a little Mitsubishi box with a four cylinder turbocharged EVO engine. It ran 237mph, a track record for a car at Maxton. The fastest motorcycle ran 257mph.

I'll get the pictures to somebody to post for me, as I still haven't figured out how to do it. All the Studes that ran went over 160. There is at least one more '53 Stude that is planning to run at Maxton this year. This one has a Keith Black 500+ cubic inch hemi under the hood.

As Jamie said the Evo hit 237 on Saturday pushing 38 pounds of boost! As fantastic as that was the record did not stand as today a Firebird, the details of which I do not have, hit 241 and some change. That is the all time record at Maxton for a four wheeled vehicle.

The all time fastest speed for motorcycles was broken twice today. First at 264 mph then a short time later another bike and rider went an unbelievable 272 and some change. All of this in a standing mile. It is absolutely unbelievable.

It was a great weekend. It was good to see other Stude guys there both as spectators and competitors.
