  • Champ instrument panel, chrome or painted

I have a 63 Champ deluxe and my instrument panel and instrument grille along with my speaker panel and speaker grille are painted silver. I have noticed on 1960 Larks that these panels are chrome and also have noticed on some Champ truckts they are chrome. Are these chrome panels being changed out on Champs to chrome from the Lark cars. What is correct?

On my Champ Pickups they are a dull silver paint. I don't recall seeing any others that were chrome.

Ditto what 2R5 said, there is correct, and then there is upgraded. In the past it was so easy to do, as Regal '59 &'60 Larks with the best trim, were everywhere, even way nicer door panels!

The Deluxe dash components were used on Champs.

Even a BLANK Black horn button, no Lark or Hawk.

They had to do that Rich - The company had symbols for a Lark and a Hawk, but no symbol for a Champ! [:0][B)]

'Course they also did not have the benefit of the SDC memberships 45+ years of hindsight reflection on these weighty matters either...

Sure they did, they had a Crown symbol, must have not had the budget in Truck Division...AGAIN!

Oh yeah (I forgot about that). Heck they could have even put the Stude "S" in the horn button as they did on later Lark types - would have matched the wheel covers.

StudeRich, what do you mean by "The deluxe dash components were used on the Champs". Are you saying that the instrument panel and the speaker panels and grilles should be painted, and the Regal car trims had chrome dash components? My parts book doesn't indicate whether these parts are chrome or painted. Is there a concenus as to what is correct?

Blondie, what is correct for a Champ Pickup is painted dash instrument and speaker inserts.

Now, what can fit? Just about anything that was offered in a Lark from '59 to '60 (mayyyybe '61).

Not '61 larks unfortunetly; but all the '59 and 60 lark stuff will. [8D] I'd put the nicer stuff in if it was mine; but what do you like?

Most Champ dash parts are Deluxe (cheapie) [u]Lark</u> of course, which are Painted Silver.
Only the top of the line "Regal" Lark had the chrome in '59, and no Champs ever did, ditto the screen behind the gauges and on the speaker.

The first Champ, the 1960 is the only one to have the pleated, Silver piping trimmed Regal '60 Lark upper dash pad (in Deluxe cab), also the only Champ that used the '60 Lark Parking Light/Vent Grilles and fender Mouldings.

These Instr. mounting "Plates" are not color/finish coded, many parts are though, as follows:
"P" at the end of the part number =Primed, Gold plate =V, VP=Gold & painted, W =Chrome, WP=Painted AND Chrome, (such as nameplates with painted filled recesses).

Jack, sounds like you came across the parts for mounting the radio speaker in vehicles that have a clock.

Here's what a Champ truck would have originally , most without the clock . The background is painted not chromed .
