  • Packard Hawk shroud seal

I have this fiberglass piece that mounts across the radiator and gets a seal attached to it. Listed as part # 1327505 shroud seal. Similar to what you would see on a hawk but different because of the hood shape. I have never seen a PH with one of these. Do you think it is because they get broken the first time you go to work on the engine? Does anyone have a template for the shape of the seal that is stapled to it? And finally, should I even bother putting it on?

They run cooler with the seal. That should be enough reason to put it back on.

The 'Baffle and Seal', part # 1328378 was added in production at serial 58LS-1465. There is a service letter titled 'Reduction of Fan Noise' (and to provide more efficient cooling) that covers the installation on earlier cars.
My parts book doesn't list the seal separately, although that is a good number. Where did you find the seal part number?

Found it in the April 1958 body parts catalog. covers 53-58 studes and 57-58 packards. I could be completely off base because I don't see a picture of it anywhere.

Mine had that too....long since sold. However, if you notice there are two rows of staples, one along the top which holds the seal to the hood, and a lower row on the lower flange. This holds another seal that faces downward and seals the gap between it and the radiator. If your car is late enough to have this then it probably also has the second thin stainless strip around the outside armrests too.

Yes it does have the stainless around the outside armrest. 58LS-1576. Thanks for that info. Really wish I had a picture of that.

You're certainly welcome. It will be interesting to see if you notice any difference in running temperature with the baffle installed.
