  • Help with oil primeing an engine?

Yesterday we set out to pump up the oil in the new re-built 299.the pass. side bank pumped up as normal, but the driver side did next to nothing by comparison.we turned engine a couple movements and still nothing to speak of.any suggestions from you engine guys would help this project along!

Joe - What method did you use to prime the system? I'm assuming it's an over-bored 289 and you did the "long flat-end screwdriver in the drill, running backwards" thing..?

Maybe the left rocker was assembled incorrectly. Make sure the indented arm (as I remember) is in the right spot, per the manual, otherwise the oil holes will not be lined up.

What do you mean by "a couple of movements"?

Full rotation while the pump is spinning is the correct way to fill all galleys, crank, etc.

The oil flow depends on the crank rotation...that is the oil passage holes in the crank shaft.
