  • Speedometer Cable Question

When I pulled the speedometer to replace the dash cover on my 1961 Lark the inner speedometer cable came part-way out of the outer cable. Can it just be pushed back in or does something need to be done to ensure it's properly seated in the pinion in the transmission?

You should be able to just push it back in. If it won't go in far enough, grab it with a needle nose pliers and turn it a bit while pushing.

While you've got access, hose it down with speedometer lubricant. Dan
