Hi Dick,
Volvo Hillman Borgward and Sunbeam service !! Things must have been tight in 64

The front window has the neon Avanti sign with the prototype script. I have never seen it like that before except on the prototype Avanti that was used in a magazine article in 1962 sometime.

What a cool piece of history. I knew that Studebaker dealers often sold lesser known brands, but I don't remember one that was a Hillman dealer. Thanks for another great post.

I believe it also says VW under the "V" in Volvo.

It's funny - I can't see "Studebaker" anywhere on the signs. Did they de-emphasize the brand once they moved to Canada?

I believe it was a company named Osterlund from somewhere on the east coast that purchased the Diamond Reo truck division from the financially troubled White Motor Corporation around 1980. Perhaps some relation to this Osterlund or perhaps they became so successful selling cars that they bought a truck manufacturer?

Update: White Motor Company sold the Diamond Reo division in 1971 which later went bankrupt 4 years later. It was then that Loyal Osterlund (a former Diamond Reo dealer of Harrisburg, PA) bought the rights and tooling for Diamond Reo trucks and began production in 1977 and later sold the company in 1995. As of yet, I have not found any connection between Loyal Osterlund and this Studebaker dealersip as I thought perhaps that he may have owned it.

I note that there is NO indication that they SOLD other makes, only SERVICED them. [:0]

On another note; interesting how the Studebaker factory note that would usually be attached to the back of the photo says:
"15 Studebaker test cabs"' [:0]

Drive them, and beat them as only a cab driver can, for 3 months and bring us back the pieces for examination at the proving grounds?
