  • Los Angeles Winter Meeting

I had a great time at last Sundays Studebaker Winter Meeting. It was a real privilege to bring the World Famous Burke Bros Avanti to the show. I seemed to spark a lot of interest, even from some of the purists. I want to thank Howard Brown and the crew for such a warm reception and for the Award Ribbon. My wife thought that caging me might not be such a bad idea. Not that I ever get out of control or anything. Look for more on the car as it goes in the shop for frame restoration and the engine gets set up on the dyno. Look for explosive things when these two legends come together again. Here's a photo or two from this past weekend.

That last picture shows (from left to right) yours truly, Chuck Sydoryk who owns the car and Karl Sparks who owns the "Twin" engine. We will try to bring the car to another show where the club will be participating and this time we will make noise. If any of you are interested, my wife took pictures of every car at the show, so if you would like a picture sent to you via e mail just let me know. Again, let me say thank you for inviting us.

        Dan:
Thanks again for bringing your spectacular land speed race car to our show. We hope you'll bring it back next year when you have established some of your own records!

            Hello Everyone,
I haven't been able to get online here as I have been working nights and most days trying to get the car ready for El Mirage this weekend. We didn't make the deadline so I will be watching and helping Dave Bloomberg race his Avanti. Hope to learn a lot about landspeed racing that will help me be successful with the Burke Bros Avanti on June 13. We plan to bring the car to Arizona to show it to Granatelli. It will have the "Twin" engine in it and should be running by then. I will post more on the great work that has been done on the car next week.

                Hi Dan:
I'll be at El Mirage tomorrow (Sunday); I'll look for the Avanti.
I'm looking forward to hearing your car run at Glendale.
