  • last year for a pickup

What was the last year that Studebaker made a pickup. I have several Studebaker books but none of them say much about the truck line.

I'm not sure, but I think it was 1964.

Did the 1964 model year production for pickups end in December of 1963?

Yes. The last Studebaker pickup was built on Dec. 27, 1963. Max Corkins has a V8 Champ with automatic that was built that last day. I remember seeing the production order for it taped to the windshield, many years ago.

I read that any 63 trucks that were still on the dealer lots by May 63 were titled 64s. Is that correct?

And that is easily done, because the true 1963's and the '64's built after about July/Aug. are ALL 8E's same model year! [^]

Not a pick up, but my truck was built in October 61 as a 7E45. Serial number and model was changed in 63 to 8E45 and is titled as a 64. Jim

Wow Jim, that thing hung around a Loooong time before they could sell it! [:0]

It wouldn't be the Laguna Blue Cab & Chassis I saw still sitting on the lot at Newman & Altman Studebaker Dealer in South Bend in Aug. 1966 would it? [:0]

I guess not, unless they re-painted the '62 solid Reef Blue (baby blue) to '64 metallic Silver Blue.

According to the October 1991 TW article on Diesels, a total of 2 E35's and 40 E45's were reserialed to become 1964 (8E) trucks instead of the original 1962 (7E) manufacture date.

Stude encouraged such re-labeling by including this statement in their August 1, 1963 Service Letter that was sent to state DMVs: "You are hereby advised that the following Studebaker trucks are to be designated as 1964 models, and applications for registration are to show such vehicles as 1964 models: Studebaker 8E series trucks starting with serial nos. . . . . . . . that are new and unused and delivered to retail purchasers on or after August 1, 1963."
