  • How much would a damaged but repairable

GT hawk trunk overlay be worth? I believe its off a '63 (the one I'm looking at) I remember hearing somewhere these are desireable in good condition, so I wanted to try my hand at repairing it.

    Thanks!

About $200.00 is a good place to start for a good one, AFTER you straighten it with the semi-gloss Black stripe at the bottom all refinished perfect. [^]

How does one refinish the anodized aluminum? I took mine off because the aluminum is pitted and very dull (not to mention it has some shallow dents and some screw holes).

Thanks Rich! So, maybe 75-100 for a damaged one? I'm thinking of Brian Curtis's old one if that gives a idea.

I'm not sure yet Milaca, I'll figure something out, LOL!

I sure wish, but then there wouldn't be any for me to fix! Or try to anyway, LOL!

FWIW, Frank Drumheller had a VERY nice one on his table for sale at York. Very nice with all the black squares ans pins on the back intact, only one tiny ding I could see, for $75. Last I saw on Sat. afternoon it still had not sold! I had predicted to Frank it would be gone within a couple hours on Friday. I now think I should have bought it, even though I have no current need for it[B)]

I found a deal on one at Cedar Rapids from a nice lady from Arkansas (I think that was the state?). She came down to $40 late Thursday afternoon for a very good fascia for a '63 Hawk but I was out of cash so I had to pass. It didnt have any dents or holes. It likely would have brought $150 or more on Ebay.

Frank Drumheller still has the one for a 1962 Hawk. I have 3 for 63 models I would like to get repaired. Who does that kind of repairs?

I have a friend in the Orange Empire Chapter in Calif. that restored his '64 Daytona Wagonaire, and what he did is take all the Aluminum body side mouldings off the Wagon and took to someplace that acid striped the anodize off, polished them and re-anodized them like new, but the cost must have been outrageous! [:0]
Then of course, he still had to mask & repaint the semi gloss Black stripe the full length of all 16 pieces.

But hey, the result was REALLY nice. []

To do the '62 & '63 GT Decklid overlays right, that's what they need.

My overlay and others that I have seen have pitting (from corrosion?). If the pits are too deep, does this mean that they are garbage? Too bad they were not made from stainless steel. If anyone has the original tooling for making these, please make me one out of stainless. Thank you. [8D]

Hmmmm. From what I'm gleaning from this, would maybe 60 bucks be a good offer? I've never seen them for sale before, so I'm new to them.

Wow! Remind me never to drive behind you! I sure would not want those in gleaming (blinding) Stainless Steel! [xx(]

Sorry StudeRich, how about brushed stainless steel like the tailgate overlays on the 1996 and older Ford pickups with the XLT trim package. [8D]
