  • EYE CANDY for Tuesday

Why is it that Studebaker didnt sell millions of these cars? They should have sold as well, if not better than, the original Ford Mustang. The 1953 & 54 Studebaker hardtops are one of the best looking cars ever built and miles ahead of its competitors in styling in those years.

Welcome back to the forum ChampTrucking. You were missed.
Does anyone know anything about the horizontal bar connecting
              the fog light/bumper guards?
My color scheme only darker red. Still a great looking car.

Way-ull, that's the $64K question, isn't it? Everybody's got an opinion and this one's mine: plain old Really Poor Planning.

After just two years of saving all kinds of money by building all cars on a single front end, South Bend set themselves up for a fall by splitting the line again between two completely different sets of body parts.

The C & K coupes, by far the more desirable of those body styles both then and now, made it all the way to production ramp-up before anyone noticed their front sheet metal didn't fit once their engines were installed, while much higher production of the F, W & Y sedans was planned because management expected them to be the bigger sellers.

In the meantime, r&d of a fully mechanical power steering system sucked up all kinds of engineering time and money and got far enough to be advertised as an available option before being withdrawn and scrapped as too noisy and unreliable.

The model year was pretty much over by the time this all got straightened out, and the buyers just never came back.
