        Probably the unveiling of the NHTSA regulations for 1968 model year cars, such as side marker lights, headrests, shoulder belts, etc.

        That would be the only thing I can think of that did affect the automotive world 'forever'.

          March 4, 1966: The Studebaker Corporation announced were shutting down their automotive division, ending new car production at the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada plant.
