JR, thats what I found on the heads of the bolts, or capscrews,after cleaning the engine bay.
Does anyone know what it stands for? I don't think it's JR of Dallas fame, I mean, they all drove Mercedeses.

Can't say I know what your JR stands for but thanks for asking: I've always wondered what the proper plural of "Mercedes" was.

Are you sure they don't say "TR"? I've seen plenty of those.

Yes, you're right. These bolts were holding the bracket for the temp sender, marked with 5 dashes, indicating strength of the bolt.
TR is probably the name of a hardware manufacturer, would be interesting to know. BTW, what's the difference between a bolt and a cap screw? I've never seen this word in other workshop manuals I have.

BOLTS, get NUTS and capscrews do not, they usually screw into a threaded hole, but are sometimes the same as a bolt without a nut.

There are two components to a bolt. One is a nut, the other is a machine screw of some sort. Without the nut, it's just a screw.

The fastener manufacturer can place their logo, letters on the head of the fastener. As noted, the lines identify the grade of the bolt.

The "JR" or "TR" is probably the manufactuer's marking. The number of lines on head indicate grade and tensile strength.
