View Full Version : Signature picture request.....

Guido

As has been noted in other posts, some Forum members have HUGE signature picture(s). Your signature picture should be small, and if avatar size, multiple pictures can be arranged on a single line rather than forcing others to scroll through all of your pictures (that is why the Members' Studebaker Pictures! forum exists).

If you are not able to resize the picture, merely upload it to Webshots (www.webshots.com) and then copy and paste the "thumbnail" to your signature line. Doing so will result in a picture size shown below.

Thanks for your help!

Good luck with that request~ I've given up asking anymore. [:0] [B)] :(

(it'd be nice if multiple posts within a topic could loose siglines, too-
but I know better then to try asking for that one, either)

It used to be alot more 'fun' and way more informative, for starters!!! I'm not sure where/when it all changed, but it has quite a bit since I first started hanging out here. No worries- I'm here much less these days.
I'm sure some like it that way, actually.

'Flo' is one sigpic I don't mind~ leave her be!!!!

I think when people start nit picking, and asking others to defer to them on issues ranging from spelling to picture size, it makes the forum less fun.

Remember, there are still a number of folks who frequent the Forum who are still on dial up. Large pictures impact the amount of time that it takes to load the individual pages. I doubt you want to have to look at something like this every time I post a comment.

And I can put you in the driver's seat for a very reasonable price! If you look back at your old Turning Wheels you can see where it was at the International Meet in Gettysburg, PA in 1980.

You have a great point, but it really does take up a ton of space to see the same large pictures over and over again in one topic that has nothing to do with the topic. Responding with others' entire post also takes up too much space. It takes time to remove parts of those, but every little bit helps. I try to remember to click my small sig picture off for most postings to speed things up. It's not necessary to see the same sig pictures, sig names that are the same as the member name for every post. I doubt it allows the Forum to run more efficiently, which is always a common complaint. I don't look at it as being forced to defer to others as much as it is just common courtesy to make topics easier and more pleasant to read, thus contributing to the fun part.
We all have different styles and those shouldn't (usually) be censored, however I feel it's just part of responsibly policing ourselves and not trying to be perceived as self appointed moderators. There will always be folks who don't care what others think here anyway, so it may fall on deaf typing fingers, but I don't see a problem in its discussion to make people aware who perhaps hadn't thought of it.

I have said this before, but I still say that some of us are getting way too into the forum, or something. I can change my sig pic, and will, but if somebody else wants to have a pic, that's their decision. Remember, we are all just car enthuist and friends here that share a common brand, Studebaker, and if we can not agree on some things, fine, but if we put something like argueing over photos before us, the things that need discussing will be lost to history. We are here to preserve the legacy left behind by the origional studebaker brothers to this day, and if we don't, who will? Let us not forget Lincols famous words that "A house divided agenst itself can not stand."[^] Let's enjoy some cars.:)

Chris, you're missing the point. This isn't a nitpick, or even a complaint- it's just a request as a courtesy, for no other reason than to help the forum operate better; not just for those on dial-up, but for the overworked server as well. Isn't that a good thing??

I understand the reason for downsizing the signature pictures as it helps the downloading for dial-up internet users and it takes less time to scroll through a thread to get to the end of it to see the newly added replies. But I do like to see the signature pictures continue to be used as it helps me (and likely others) identify other members (especially those that don't post frequently) as I find it easier to identify a specific person with a picture of their car/truck than just their name alone. With that said, I often change my sig pic just to throw you people off. :D

Now Guido, I would very much enjoy seeing that old Trailer Toter in all it's rusty glory. Then again, I'm kinda wierd that way.;)[:o)] Anne, don't change a thing.

Now as to dial-up, I'M on dial-up. Very, very slow dial-up. In fact, it's gotten so bad that all these U-Tube links can cause my screen to hang to the point I have to forcibly terminate the session. Yes, sometimes I have to wait a while for pictures to load. Yes, I must admit, some of the sig. pictures have gotten a bit over-large. Still, reducing all of them to thumbnails makes them almost useless to a blind old man like me. Oh, I can see them... sort of. Even identify what model of car they probably are. Why do you think my fonts are this large? So that I can use preview to spell check and so on.

As to the suggestion about using the sig. line only once in a thread; that's easy: just click on the, "Check here to include your profile signature," box and it will make it easier for us dial-ups to load the screen. I'll try to remember for now on myself, as a matter of fact.;)

By the by, I'll put in a vote to leave Flo alone too!

Photobucket also has a simple 'edit' choice above any picture. The resize here is very simple to use, by pixels or percentages. I've just cranked my down a bit more too, to show my support from the topic.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the eventual solution for the forum slowdowns be a new software. Many of which do avatars off to the side of the posts. Those kind of alleviate our desire to have a pictoral signature line

Maybe you misread the above posts Milaca. No one is saying to [u]eliminate</u> the Sig. Pics at all! [:0]

Just simply AFTER your first post on a Topic, unclick the check mark in the "Check here to include your profile signature" box. That's it! [^]

It also helps to keep them reasonably small and side by side, if more than one. :)

This is only as barnlark (Dave) said, the responsible thing to do, that's all. :)
