That was my guess too. Just wanted to confirm it. ;)

I'm thinking from the 40's, somewhere on the dash. Anyone know for sure?

Looks like a dash speaker grille emblem from a '50.

Edit: Here's a shot of the '50 Champion we built for a customer a couple years ago. I'm sure the speaker grille with the emblem is out of a Commander.

It has the same design as 52 commander front hood emblem only year I have seen the design...Bob

Here's a better shot of a stock '50 Commander.;)[8D]
The chrome surround is all part of the grille, the emblem fits in from behind.
