  • 1964 R2 avail. after South Bend plant closing

When the plant in South Bend was closed in Dec.1963 could the R series engines still be ordered in the Daytonas and Cruisers that were built in Canada for the remainder of the 1964 model year?

    regards,
    Jay

No Jay, we only brought in the six and two V-8s.

There were enough Stude blocks around (and a few were still made after Dec '63) to finish out the 1964 model year... McKinnon engines did not show up until the '65's started to be produced.

Right, actually, there were a [u]whole lot</u> of Engines produced after line shutdown in 1964 for Canadian Production, short block, and block and piston Assembly replacement engines sent to Plant 8 Worldwide Parts Depot, Regional Parts Depots and Dealers.

The Foundry workers were not laid off when the line stopped.
