  • can a single wire fuel sender be used with 2 wire

Has anyone had any luck using a single wire sending unit for a later model Stude (or universal sender) with a '40s vintage 2 wire gage?

You will need to know the resistance (ohms) in both the old and the new, you might be able to find one that matches. These are listed online, including resistance. 6 and 12 volt doesn't matter. I found one at Summit Racing, that had the same resistance as my '55. more or less. It turns out that the resistor is reversed, making mine read empty when its full, and full when its empty. I can live with that, sorry for the poor sucker that steals it, thinking its full. You may have to do some experimenting with the wiring, too, but it should be able to work.
