  • On The Road to Bakersfield...and Back!

We are officially on our quest to take a look at LuLu (the 4 door '60 Lark wagon in Bakersfield, CA) with trailer in tow. Fun times! Left last night after some very nice friends of ours offered to watch the kids and spare them the car ride. It's pretty cool when you tell your 4 and 5 year-old kids that we might be getting another Studebaker and they start jumping up and down!

We picked up the trailer from the UHaul place last night on the way out of town. It's funny, we rent from the same location (same girl) every time and every time she tells us that we need a special trailer "because those Studebakers are just so heavy." We wonder whether she realizes that by now we've rented almost every trailer in her yard...each one is that "special one" and it always happens to be the one in the mud. Hmm...

Made it to Needles, CA, last night for a little bit of sleep and are now back on the road again (literally...you have to love technology at times!) If you're headed down I-40 this morning, we're about 100 miles outside of Barstow. We're the blue Avalanche towing the empty trailer at a wonderful (John's favorite) 55 miles per hour (special thanks to the state of California!) Hopefully, a little later today, we'll be headed back in the opposite direction with a pretty little wagon on the trailer. We'll keep you posted!

Ya know with a little bit of hot wrench, some hot paste, fiberglass, bondo, and that C-cab P/u bed and frame with MII suspension in storage etc. we could mate up LuLu and Midge and have a crew cab UTE. And rename it LuMi. Just something to think about on your journey.

Well I understand it is an Overdrive Six, easy to convert to a Overdrive VIII, with the same clutch pedal and shift column! [^]

Well, we believe we have a winner!!! Not only did we get the wagon, but also all the documentation and extra parts that the previous owners had collected. We were very fortunate that the gentleman selling the car was a man of his word. Apparently, four people called him after we did and offered him up to $1000 more for the car. We wouldn't have been able to get it at the price and can't say enough about the integrity of this seller. We'll post more pictures when we get home. Tracy's looking forward to diving into all the goodies in the back seat!

Great find, John and Tracy! Those Regals ARE sweet! [] [^]

Sounds like the SDC seller was a real gentleman and a Prince.
