Should front leaf springs have a arch to them?

The parallel leaf springs in my 50 Stude 2R-C2 pickup sit flat, no arch at all. The truck is equipped with a Chevy 350, turbo 350 and front disc brakes.

Most of the front leaf springs in sixty-year-old Stude pickup look flat when loaded. As long as you are not regularly hitting the bump stops, they are OK.

The question not asked is, "How do I change those worn-out rubber spring eye bushings?" Most any Stude truck which has not had the bushings changed in the past few miles is running with the spring bolt rubbing against the top of the spring eye. The Stude bushing design was cheap junk, having no center sleeve. Thus, the spring hanger bolt cuts through the bushings in just a few thousand miles.

The best solution is to go to an off-road/4x4 shop and get the polyurethane bushings for early Jeeps. They will fit the Stude springs and bolts and will last practically forever.
