Interesting, it's got Avanti type plug wiring brackets without the stainless covers in a Lark Type car.

Enlarged, it looks like the body tag streamer says: SPD, and the Body tag says: 64V that's all I can read! [:0]

That would be the 4 Speed streamer (tag).

All R3's and R4's have 5 BREATHER Caps, it's not about the filling, it's about the BREATHING! [^] To prevent crankcase pressure.

If it were built for sale, it would have a Studebaker/Prestolite Electronic Ignition (heatsink)box.

Believe it or not, the Hotrod magazine(I think it was the one with the Bonneville run in it) Lark also had that type of plug wiring brackets also. I always wondered why they never just went ahead and made those mainstream with the other R powered cars(non Avanti's), instead of just the R4's like they did here. It would have cleaned up the plug wire rat's nest back there quite nicely. And yes, the R3 and R4's have that many breathers to alleviate the crankcase pressure . The valve covers though do make a nice addition to the R2's, if you can fit them.

Chrome valley cover? Air filters just fitted for picture purposes (the actual filter housing would cover most everything on top up)?

These kind of pictures are a gold mine - wish I had a shot of both my Studebakers from the factory like this...

The R3/R4 have thicker, hi performance wires that won't fit under the stainless covers.

Nice looking piece of machinery. I didnt realize the R-4's came with a fan shroud. Did other R series also? The radiator looks to be flat black, I thought they came as either semi-gloss or gloss black. Somebody wanna pop the cowl drain tube back into the firewall? With that open hole, a mouse may get inside. [8D]

There has been a lot of disagreement on the finish of the master cylinder cover when judging disc brake equipped cars. It sure looks painted (black) in this picture.

Isn't that because it's suppost to be black ?

I think so, but a lot of judges think that it should be natural metal finish.

It IS the CORRECT galvanized finish, just light or flash reflecting off of the black from the wiindshield washer bottle and the brake booster! You can see that it is lighter than the master Cyl. [:0]

There were no BLACK master Cylinder lids.
