  • timing gear

I have a 1955 champion with an engine from a 1951 in it. I am changing the timing gear. I ordered part number 532125 from Studebaker Intl. and was sent part number 534717 (the time gear for a 1955-60 engine). Due to the different part numbers I am assuming they are different. Because the old timing gear no longer exists so I can compare the two, I am not sure, but the one I received seems like it is too big. I have not tried putting it on yet due to my concern.

Are the two gears different sizes?

I believe the deck heights changed when they made the main bearing a larger dia. The newer blocks are a differnt casting and the distance between the crankshaft and cam is greater so there are different diameter timing gears. At least that is how I remember things to be.

It is NOT the same, and it's $30.00 more for the 532125, the ALUMINUM one 532125X is $100.00 more and worth it. [^]
