[Studebaker Wheel]

These two 1948 Champions were wrecked in separate unrelated incidents in the South Bend area and brought into the Scherman-Schaus-Freeman dealership within a few days of each other for repair.

Anyone have any idea why the license tags read the way they do i.e. state and year switched between the two tags?

The tags are two different years, 48 & 49.
Must have been at time to buy new tags.

That really is amazing similar damage.
About the only difference I can find is the exterior rear view mirror. Is the one on the left aftermarket?

The car on the right also has a radio antenna as well as lights below the headlights. Notice how the bumper mounting bolt ripped out of the left side on both cars.

The one on the right has a parking light the left one doesnt, also looks like the right one was hit harder than the left one, notice the hood emblem, and the bumper is closer to the head lite.

Pretty amazing similarities. Looks like they were crash tested under identical circumstances.

The holes in the bumpers are not mounting holes. They're for the jack. The mounting bolts for the bumper are behind the bumper guards and at the very outer ends.

The lower light showing is a factory fog light. The parking lights are above the headlight.

Look like both cars fared pretty well; they don't make 'em like they used to.

Man, ain't that the truth! I know, this topic of crash safety has already been flamed to death. My brother hit someone while he was in high school with my car, causing the need of expensive body work. OR, a used fender from the junkyard. Think the used fender cost $7.50, and my dad and I replaced it. No labor. Couldn't come close to that amount times 100 now.

Newer cars don't even have bumpers. If you even touch something, the paint is scuffed. I liked the spring steel type bumpers like those used on Model T's for example. If you ran into something with the bumper, it would spring back as if nothing happened.
