  • Maintenance Phase 1 complete

As with most folks, winter is a good time to do maintenance on my Studebaker as the weather is not the best for driving. As I have been out of work for awhile, I had even more time to get a few things done to the Transtar. This is even a bigger deal for me as I am no mechanic and usually need to carefully follow the shop manual when doing anything more than an oil or air filter change! (and there are numerous times when a job is done twice or three times to get it right) [:0]

The first phase of this project is now finished and the truck was started and checked this morning to ensure I got things done right.
He fired up very nicely, everything serviced or replaced worked and nothing leaked! Here's the rundown: New Generator and Regulator, New (recored) radiator, new water pump, new 180F thermostat (replaced the 160F), new pertronix ignition, new plugs, ignition wires, serviced/adjusted carburetor, new fan belt, new battery cables, cleaned and painted various bits and pieces removed from the engine and surrounding area. Here are a couple of pics...

Phase 2 will include installing a new Climatizer and a new instrument panel (and cleaning the firewall!). At that time various decals in the engine room will be installed as well.

                Nice job Mark! [^]

You Canucks must have your own secret Electrical Parts factory up there somewhere! [:0] I have rarely seen the H.D. Tan type Dist. caps before, but NEVER GRAY and Wires to match! What's that about?

All of my Stude. Vendor parts are Black.

Thanks Rich! The distributor cap I got from a member down in Victoria (BC) who had it sitting around for a few years. The ignition wires I bought off eBay shortly after I got the truck - I think they came from a fellow in Florida.
I think the gray and black matches nicely with the silver/black engine colours... Not planned ahead of time - and NOT the correct engine colours for an early '57, but the truck has many things that are not quite correct for a 3E series, so I thought what the heck?
The deciding factor on colour is simply that I can get high temp silver/gray and gloss black paint quite reasonable locally.
