What a terrific photo! Thanks so much for posting!

I've got to wonder if any of those serial nos. are accounted for at this point?!

That looks like the old pickup assembly building that was north of Sample St. and on the east side of Lafayette. If that's so, these cars must be sitting at what was the southeast part of the old Newman and Altman lot.

Wow, COOL! 14 Avantis, and a GM? Convertible or Hardtop visible in the photo at the Avanti Plant yard (old truck plant).

And a "Y" body '58? Stude. or Packard and a '59 or '60 light colored Lark, a '56 Caddy and maybe three more unidentified vehicles all in the Factory Assembly Bldg. yard.

I love seeing "as they WERE" photos! [^]

January 1963 was the largest production month for Avantis up to then. It looks like Studebaker was catching up with, or surpassed, demand then.

Another great photo Richard. Its fun finding the various details in these pictures. I notice a '63 Lark and perhaps a Wagonaire to the left just behind the chain link fence.

That is great to see, notice the hoods popped on a couple.I always thought the wheel covers got put on at delivery, and not out in lots.

I presently have 5 Avantis in the shop at this time, 1 is an avanti 2, 4 are 1963, I do have # 2675 which is between two of those numbered, I also have a factory 4 speed[8D] but cant get to it to check the number, I will assume 2675 must be in that lot. What was the starting numbers for the avanti?

                            R2590 whereabouts are unknown

R2648 and R2652 as well as R2674 whereabouts are also unknown

R2676 and R2683 are also unknown

What I am saying simply none of these cars appear in the AOAI roster.

Sure hope they are around somewhere.

Maybe they haven't turned a wheel since that picture was taken. They might still be there waiting for ya!!
