The wheels look odd painted red, should have went with white or blue.

Ya factory 3" exhaust also, this thing already has a bid at just under $10,000 and Peter only got around 8500.. for his nice 62 R-2 powered 4 speed car, every bit as nice as this one., again to each his own.

I don't know that a V8 is rare in a '61... perhaps he should have instead stated it has "rare" intact tailight lenses! ;)

A nice looking Lark.:)

I have doubts that that's a legitimate bid. There's a red 63 on eBay again that was on a couple weeks back that met reserve with one bid of $4700; MAYBE a $1500 car. Turned up again today with no explanation and the opning bid again at $4700.

I suspect this one may be a shill bid too...

I sure do Craig! Looks horrid on that car! But, now I know how white and blue will interact on my lark,LOL! I think I'm going to do it.....just not as far down, only the roof.

That is a cute little '61.

I'm not aware of any factory two-toning in '61, but hey, he says it's factory!

Small, but a big pet peeve of mine: Did the restorer not know if it's a '59 or '61? Must not have, as he put the '59 "Studebaker" front fender nameplates AND the correct '61 "Lark VIII" nameplates. This kind of thing, and careless nameplate placement, drives me up a wall as it takes no skill whatsoever to figure this out but it can be a pain taking a wrong nameplate and/or nameplate location, off the car without damage.

I'd like the see the build sheet for that car. I once owned a '61 Cruiser that I firmly believe was factory two-toned. The colors were yellow with a white roof; a dead ringer for City of Calgary fleet vehicles at the time. And the dealer sticker was still affixed to the rear of it which would be a sign of its original paint job. Unfortunately, I parted out the car over 30 years ago now, not realizing how rare they are. However, I still have the serial number of it handy, and next time I'm at SNM, I will look it up. I don't really want to fork over the $25 for a copy of it for a car that no longer exists!

Don't forget the 1961 Hawks, they were all two-toned. I also believe that 1961 was the last factory two-toning, not counting fleet/special order or vinyl tops.

True, but I think most folks consider 'two toned' to mean a roof in a different color than the lower body:).

The wheels have to be stock Studebaker, because the only other wheel that fits those '60 Stude. Caps is the Rambler, and it is IDENTICAL- same Budd wheel!

It just has some aftermarket beauty Rings with '60 Lark Hub Caps, probably the BEST looking small cap Studebaker ever made, certainly a big improvement over those ugly deep dish '61's! [xx(]

_____________________________________________________________________________
Bill: I agree 100%, those "Studebaker" nameplates really have to go, and it's a big job too.

If he really wanted Studebaker nameplates on the sides, it would have looked better ANY where but there! Door, rear quarter panel anywhere!
[:0]

They look wrong because, for that location they need to be higher like the '59's, but then they would not match the '61's, so just a BAD idea. :(

It may be a decent car, but it is way far from authentic. For example, 289s were only available in Cruisers and "Sweepstakes" is an earlier designation. This car probably started lfe as a six-cylinder cheapie.

Do you think complaining about wrong nameplates and/or location is nitpicking? I know people who say that, but I always reply that I can see that fifty feet away, unlike orange peel that most folks (me included) hate that you have to get up close to see!:)

I don't think it's that so much, it's just that when something is advertised as 'factory correct' and it clearly isn't, it's not the observer's fault; it's the seller's fault.

Sort-of like (but not as bad as) the fellow who sold me my '64 long-distance saying "The surface rust on the driver's floor is not as bad as it looks" and showing a photo of the carpet pulled back like two inches. Had he pulled it back another two, he'd have clearly shown another story.

I see that in the listing, it does have a "61V" serial number which does make me think it was indeed built as a V8.
