Saw this car sell for $97,000 yesterday on the Barett- Jackson Speed channel coverage.

I like everything about it except the fake jet exhaust in the back,but that is just me. It was stated on the B-J show there are red LED's installed in the fake exhaust to simulate it working.

That's the same ride I photographed at the 2007 Pixar Motorama.
All Corvette underneath. Mitsubishi Eclipse top. Aston Martin paint color (Tungsten Silver).
It belonged to the father of Pixar employee and Billetproof organizer Jay Ward (not of Rocky & Bullwinkle fame)

Now that's an eye opener. I love the color on that car. Actually the top is not bad either. I agree with you that the fake jet exhaust thingy is much more bling than is needed.

Is that a Packard convertible in the back? Now that one is the one I would love to have.

Are the doors Stude doors?I wonder how much of this car is actually Studebaker and how they listed it when it was sold?

I would only change one thing on it, it has a '51 front end, but a '50 bullet nose. Maybe it's just me, but it looks a little out of place that way.

I could be wrong, but I remember seeing a website with the build of this car. I think it started out as a '51 Commander sedan. The roof came from a Mitsubishi Eclipse.

BTW Chris. Looks like it has '52 headlight doors as well. I think the '51 grilles and '50 bullet look just right together. [^]

Now THAT would be an interesting build, to put a jet engine in a bullet nose Stude. I read years ago that Ford experimented with jet power by installing an existing jet engine into a 1957 Thunderbird. However, it wasnt practical for public use as it shot flames out the back. Chrysler built several jet engine cars throughout the 1960's and were well mannered (no fire blasting out the back) but they had terrible acceleration from a stand-still unless you power-braked in order to get the RPM's up. The 1950's and 1960's were great for thinking outside of the box when it came to automoitive design & engineering as safety was an afterthought. [8D]

Take another look Chris and you'll see the headlights are from a 52. I kind of like it. The best charactoristics of each year.
