View Full Version : New forum feature added (and a request)

I posted this in the General Discussion forum but for those that only hang out here...

I have enabled a "Quick Reply" feature on the forums. This places a Quick Reply box at the end of each thread to make it more convenient to post a reply (see pic).
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h53/StudeRobert/QuickReplyScreenshot.gif

My request: Please do not use the "Reply with Quote" unless [u]necessary.</u>
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h53/StudeRobert/LittleIconsscreenshot.gif

And, when you do use it, PLEASE edit it to show only the parts of the quoted text necessary and do not repeat the photos that are in the quoted post. As you may have noticed, using the "Reply With Quote" repeats photos and makes it harder for the majority of forum members who are on dial-up to load and scroll through the threads. By judiciously using this feature we can help all members have a more enjoyable forum experience.

Thanks.

Au Contrare, dear sir! :) One merely has to learn and insert the keystrokes for smilies! :D

BTW, you can also use all the same forum code such as bold, text size and image insertions.

I read a poem once about the window that rode on the back of the DOS fish. I think it was in byte magazine... Amusing. What most people don't realize, is that the window is still riding on the DOS fish. Just a rabbit trail.

If I might be so bold as to add to our esteemed moderator's remarks; When one is quoting from another's post, one only needs to highlight and copy the relevant text. Many people will point and click the entire post. Text takes time to load, and read for that matter. If you want your rebuttle or afirmation to have more punch, focus it. Relevancy adds to clarity of one's message.

Ok, I'll shut up now...[:I];)

Ah....another word out of the past, FORTRAN was used in the
business world for computer programing....while "DOS" or Digital
Operating System was the 1st "pc" based system for IBM and clones
for us older "geeks". Then Mr. Gates developed "Windows". To get
"Windows" to run, He placed that on top of "DOS".....and the rest
is History....No real need to worry Brad....you have been using
"DOS" all this time, but "Windows" makes it user friendly....[:0]

I carried boxes of those cards around campus back in the sixties. I think a couple thousand cards enabled you to actually graph a parabolic curve.:D It has been much easier to learn how to push a mouse.

A friend of mine thinks I'm creative enough to make big bucks if I learn C++ ; yeah, right. I'll do that right after I learn everything there is to know about tantric yoga.

Oh... my... God! PUNCH CARDS! I remember that the Navy used to love those. We had a Honeywell that used to take stacks of a thousand cards. If one of them was out of order, the reader would then start spewing all the cards out onto the floor. Then we'd have to stop the machine and pick up the cards. If we were really lucky, we'd catch it before more than a hundred cards got spit out. We never left that monster alone when it was loading information.
