  • Tri star hood emblem?

    Hi All,

I'm looking for the correct 1953 Commander (early) hood tri-star for our project. S.I. has the tri-star for the trunk lid but not the hood. Are they the same? All clues will be appreciated!!

    Regards,

    John Brayton

There is more concave to the backside of the hood ornament due to the curvature of the hood, the deck emblem is smaller, but much flatter than a C or K Model hood Ornament. [^]

The Sedan hood Ornament is even more concave.

The hood tri-star is different than the trunk, unique to the coupe/hardtop, and difficult to find. They do turn up from time to time, but not for cheap. I do have a nice one I would part with for $150 plus a paintable core in trade.

John, Do you need one for a sedan or a C/K model? I have a couple of them for the sedans NOS. Let me know.

              Hi Guys,

Thanks for the quick response! If you could email me directly I could ask you about your tri-stars. It is a C/K coupe that I'm working on. My email is johnbraytonz@comcast.net

As I've mentioned before, the Tri-Star ornaments persisted in being used til the end of the '53 model run AT the Los Angeles plant.

                Just a bit of trivia.

                    Hi All,

Still looking for an early hood tri-star. I found one that needs serious repair but would prefer a better one to refinish. Hope you have leads.

                    Regards,

Sorry Dean, but that is not a Tri-Star hood front emblem, standard on all cars, its's a Hood (top) Ornament, which on '53-'54 C & K Models was an optional ACCESSORY.
