looking for good running 289

[studerodder]

i am looking for a good running 289 for my 61 cruiser. must not knock or smoke, as i already have one that does those things. just want to see if a good engine can be bought before i rebuild this one.
midwest area preferred, i am near chicago.

I'm also looking for a 289 motor but first i need to fix all my brakes and suspension. Right now i have a good running Chevy 350 SB W/700 Tranny that came with the car. Theres a fella here his name in the forum is barnlark and he is selling a nice 25,000 mile 289 with new water pump, including intake manifold and edelbrock carb for $1000 engine supposedly never being rebuilt and looks very clean, he shared this pics with me.

BTW, don't restrict your search to just 289" engines. There are three times as many good 259"s out there at half the price. You'll most likely not notice the difference in horsepower. Buy the best engine you can find.

for my Dad during a trip to SASCO 'because I was there' so he said.

I finally got the engine swap / trans reseal completed in my 61 lark. bought the engine from Dave Arnold. I paid a lot, and i got even more. you guys said dave was a good guy and you were 100% right. THANKS DAVE!!!!! and thanks to my cousin and fellow mechanic Jim Moore for giving up his weekends and driving many miles to help me get it done. see you guys in south bend.

Butch, I'm much slower than you, I guess! My original engine is still on the stand waiting for the front end and transmission to get done. I hope the 289 runs well and gives you plenty more miles of reliability. How's it sound after the new bearings? Hopefully smooth. See you in SB.
