That looks like a old aftermarket Sears Allstate radio. Supposed to hang under the dash. My dad had one in his '39 ford that was later in the old '47 chevy pickup on the farm. Leaky windshield or other ills killed it. Its somewhere in a shed yet.

Looks like they hacked part of the Dash out to get that thing in there.

Had it been properly installed it may have fit respectfully behind the dash. Not a Studebaker Philco.

I thought it looked like the old speaker from a drive in movie with a radio stahed behind it.

Looks like an old Crosley to me.

If it wasn't for the last minute i'd never get anything done.

As you can see, not a good one for restoration. Planning on rodding by dropping the body on an S-10 frame with a big Buick nailhead.

You seem to have a bit of body work ahead. Being a coupe it should be easier to put on an S-10 frame. The hardtop would be tough.

However, you have the important parts on the car. Grills, grill surrounds, tail lights and rear fender Stainless Spears. Difficult to find at best.

Mine were in the same condition as yours so I painted them after filling the pits.

My body was close to yours in condition. It takes a lot of time if you do it yourself but the rewards are worth it.

                    Good luck and keep asking.

Although rough, that early '53 C5 looks very unmolested/modified except for that radio!

                      It was well optioned too:

                      OD trans
fender top spears (missing but shadow remains)
Hood ornament (its a Stude one, not aftermarket)
                      Back up lights.
                      Electric wiper motor.
                      Heater aka climatizer
                      Cigar lighter
                      full wheel covers

Someone was asking about the different seat cloths in '53 a few weeks ago. I suspect under those are the original hickory beige broadcloth upholstery remains.

Looks like the heater hoses are original too. Note the spring clamps.

So the hood ornament is correct for the car?

Yes it is A Genuine Stude. [u]OPTIONAL Accessory</u>, however most people prefer that the simple clean, uncluttered lines of the '53 and '54 Coupes and Hardtops NOT be cluttered up with: spot lights, fog lights, bumper guards, bumper over-riders, bumper corner guards, fender ornaments, back-up lights and Hood Ornaments. [:0]

For some people, probably MOST; that would include Continental Kits, windshield Visors and fender skirts as well! [xx(]

Almost ALL of this 100 or more Lbs. of junk, was Factory or Dealer available equipment!

Wow, I thought by it's size that it was maybe a truck ornament just thrown on there by a previous owner.
I wish the car was in much better shape, then I would restore it. But the motor is locked up and the frame is rotted, interior shot, not to mention the odor! I think it was home to a cat with a bad prostate.[xx(]
