Wiring heat and gas gages

I would like to know if the hot wire on these 61 hawk gages go on the top or bottom post on these two gages.
I am wiring from scratch.

There should be a fiber cover on the back of the gage (at least there are on 6 volt gages) One of the posts is labeled IGN. The wire from/to the sender goes to the other one. On my 6 volt system the top screws are for the gage, but I'm not at all certain about later versions.

If they're anything like the Australian 62 GT, the bottom wire goes to the sending unit. I'm still hunting a fuel gauge for mine.
