  • Powershift Core What's it Worth?

I would like to buy a spare powershift transmission from a guy I know. I know the transmission is needs a complete overhaul and at this point nothing more than a complete core. A major transmission overhaul kit is going to cost about $190 plus new front and rear bushings, then I have the cost of a rebuilder to repair the transmission.

What's this transmission worth to be absolutely fair to the owner of this transmission and me, the guy that has to have it repaired?

      Kevin,

Between full time university studies, rebuilding my house and building my shop I've had no time to be on the forum much less anything else. I have a reprieve for a few days before my last final exam for this semester so I am wiring my shop today.

My Hawk has been down for the count and in storage for 5 months with carburetor troubles and I am looking forward to epoxy painting the shop floor during Christmas break, so I can get my Hawk back home, see it again and finally fix it for the South Bend swap meet next spring.

To much to do and too little time to accomplish anything... better get off this internet and go to work.

      Allen

I'd say that rebuildable tranny is worth $200-300.

I bought an alleged good powershift w/bell and complete shifter ass. and housing. Then decided not to chance its condition, and ended up with $1400.00 total in it after a complete rebuild and cost of trans.

If you can buy power shift trans for $200.00 I will take all you got, and if you got one and had it rebuilt and have only $1400.00 in it you got a real deal, did they build it as a power shift?? or just put in standard clutches??

Welcome back, anyway, Allen. Good luck with your garage and hopefully that carb. See you in SB. Have a great Christmas.

It was rebuilt by Myers, it should have been done right.

My '70 had a Power Shift in it when I bought the car...it was leaking badly. For the cost of a rebuild I decided to go with a 700R4 built to match the engine specs...the only real difference in cost was opting for an aluminum driveshaft. Admittedly it was for a GM crate engine rather than a Stude engine, but it was a more cost effective way to go.

I sold the Power Shift for $250.

I agree, I can $200 for just the torque converter.
