The stance isn't right for a Bonneville car.

No wonder it has the wrong stance. It is an Avanti 11. The emblem is on the trunk lid and the front end. The engine looks a lot like a GM as well.

It is amazing how many "experts" are so dumb!

All the underhood stuff looks too cobbled to be Granatelli.

If it's on the internet, it must be true.

            Jeff

I was reading the 1998 Spring issue of Avanti Magazine in my (eeeerr!!) library this morning and read the article titled. It's a Studebaker, It's a Chevy, It's a super Avanti. I think it might be the same car as the hood has a similiar bulge.

It was labeled a 1968 and no mention of Bonneville. The under hood shot looks like the same car as the article.

I followed the link to the Avanti site. It's a site I've never looked at, I confess, so I started to read the tale of how the Avanti II came to be.
In the brief synopsis of Studebaker's Avanti, it tells of the various engine options and describes the R4 as dual supercharged![B)]

              1957 Transtar 1/2ton
              1963 Cruiser
              1960 Larkvertible V8
              1958 Provincial wagon
              1953 Commander coupe
              1957 President two door

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

with that nose high stance the car would blow over about 150 MPH [:0].

Jeff's original post identifies it as an Avanti II. The article identifies it as an Avanti II. What experts identified it as otherwise?

(BTW, what's an Avanti 11? Was it the one after the Avanti 10? [)])

The engine has 327 Chevy valve covers, so i assume it is a 327.

If it wasn't for the last minute i'd never get anything done.

That's a '67 or '68 Avanti II built by Avanti Motors. I've read two different versions...one was the car was built for high speed runs at Bonneville and the other was it was built for Robert Morrison of Molded Fiberglass.

Somewhere I have a copy of an old car magazine where they tested that car way back when. They reported poor performance out of it but admitted it was way out of tune.

Several years ago I saw it for sale on Ebay. It is a one-of-a-kind Avanti II but that doesn't necessarily translate into big money. It is an authentic factory car.

                        Yes, I agree.
I've seen that hood before, but in a black & white photo.
As best I remember, that car looked white.
I'm thinking they only made one or two.
